Tourmaline has the richest color variation among the classic gemstone families. It appears in all colors of a rainbow, and it often happens that several shades of color are displayed within one specimen. It is also worth knowing that the different colored versions of tourmaline are known by different names, similar to the different colored stones of other classic stone families. The orange and brown varieties are called dravite. Within tourmalines, there are more common and rarer shades. Rarer shades are usually much more valuable. There is an extremely rare version of verdelite, i.e. green tourmaline, called chrome tourmaline. This special strong green tourmaline turns ruby red when viewed through a Chelsea filter and illuminated with warm light. This is therefore an extremely special color-changing effect, which rarely occurs in the first place with verdelite, but the filter color-changing effect is even more rarely possible with tourmalines of other colors. I have written all of this because it is the most unique tourmaline I have ever come across. This is a chrome-dravite similar to chrome-verdelite, which also has a filter-colorchange effect that differs from chrome-verdelite, as here the light pastel-brown shade changes to bright emerald green when viewed through a Chelsea filter and illuminated with warm light. This exceptionally huge 4.00 Ct, oval-cut specimen is a true connoisseur's treat, even collectors have never seen anything like it!
