Zaffirine should not be confused with sapphire, which is classified as a classic gemstone, although they are sometimes similar in color, but zaffirine is always much smaller than its famous companion. Initially, this rarity could only be collected in Sri Lanka, but more recently it was also discovered in Madagascar. It is mostly blue or grayish-blue, but it can also be greenish-blue, bluish-green or green or yellowish-green. Their faceted size is usually no more than a few tenths of a carat. This 0.20 Ct, perfectly oval-cut steel blue specimen is exceptionally good for its size and was collected at its classic site in Sri Lanka.
