The real collectors' versions of olivine are forsterite and fayaltite, but these are not the end of the rare collector's stones of the olivine family, because a mineral somewhat reminiscent of peridot, but separate, was found in Sri Lanka, which was named dunilite after its discoverer, Dr. Palitha Gunasekera Dunil (1947–2022). I even met him in Srí-Lanka and this gem is from his old collection. Unlike peridot, dunilite grows only very small crystals and its color is not the classic peridot color, rather olive green. Usually, gemstones of only a few tenths of a ct are cut from it. This oval cut, 0.11 Ct specimen is not considered small among dunilites. It is almost impossible to come across a single polished gem from this material.
