Pargasite is a typical member of the Amphibole family. Each member of the amphibole family is a rare collector's stone. I have seen many times that a dealer sells a stone as amphibole, which happens when he cannot identify more precisely which member of the family it is. After all, this is not a serious mistake, a bit like calling indigolite blue tourmaline, or rubellite pink or red tourmaline. Either one is a correct name. Pargasite was previously known as a pale or medium green stone, but recently reddish-brown pargasites have also been found in Tanzania. This 0.79 Ct, oval cut beauty belongs to the latter. Its size can be said to be average. The Tanzanian pargasites are not very huge, but you can't miss them in your collection next to the Burmese green variant.
