Tanzanite is the sapphire blue version of the zoisite stone family. Due to its name, it occurs exclusively in Tanzania in this color. Some experts say that tanzanite is as blue as sapphire wants to be, and they are mostly right. The only difference is that blue sapphire is much rarer in the same sizes as tanzanite, so it is often extremely overpriced. In terms of price-value ratio, tanzanite is therefore worth more, and what is especially good news is that since its deposits are limited to a single country, it is also an excellent investment stone, as its value is expected to drop sharply after the mines are exhausted. In the case of tanzanite, the sapphire blue hue is usually achieved by heat treatment. Without it, untreated stones are purple, greenish, or brownish. This heat treatment is permitted for tanzanites. This beautiful Kashmir blue, 1.43 Ct, trillion cut specimen can serve also as a beautiful central stone if it is set in white gold or platinum.
