Scapolite is a gemsonte that can have various colors, and although it is not one of the hardest, it is similar to opal, so it requires some attention from the wearer. It can be made into a pendant, brooch, or earring, but it is not recommended for everyday use as a ring, rather it is only recommended to be worn as an occasional cocktail ring. Yellow and beige scapolites are the most common, but there are also real rarities and delicacies among them. With its 1.45 ct size, this basically colorless Afghan scapolite is considered quite large within its kind. This stone is a real delicacy, a favorite among collectors, as it changes color strongly under UV light. In short-wave UV light, it is orange, and in long-wave UV light, it is yellow, and if you illuminate it with UV light for enough time, it shines in a pale blue shade for a while even in daylight, and then slowly fades. This is known as the tenebrescent effect. Such tenebrescent stones are rarely larger than half a ct when polished.

Tenebrescent scapolite is an extremly rare and special type of scapolite. It is colorless and crytal clear in daylight. These stones can change their colors depending on the different UV lights. After switching off the UV light, they keep their light blue color for a short time.

This stone under Short Wave UV light has orange color but in Long Wave UV light it has neon yellow color.
