Next to quartz, calcite is perhaps one of the most well-known minerals, but while the members of the quartz family are excellent jewelry stones due to their hardness, calcite can only be classified as a special collector's stone, not only because it is soft, but also because it is extremely difficult to polish. Calcite, like most transparent minerals, is completely colorless without trace elements, so this specimen is the source, a mineral without impurities, which is of course just as difficult to cut as its colored counterparts.
