Fluorite, like some classic gemstone families, can occur in any color of the rainbow, and can even have different colors within a single crystal, usually in a banded arrangement. Some fluorite can even change color. However, one thing should not be forgotten: fluorite is not as hard as classic gemstones, so it is best placed in a pendant or earring. It is recommended to wear it in a ring only for occasional wear, and in a cocktail ring, because it can be damaged in everyday use. This 4.28 ct emerald-cut specimen shows the classic Mexican fluorite banding pattern, even though it was found in Afghanistan. Due to its shade of blue, it also produces some color change effect.
