Tourmaline has the richest color variation among the classic gemstone families. It appears in all colors of a rainbow, and it often happens that several shades of color are displayed within one specimen. These multi-colored stones are called watermelon tourmalines because the first such specimens found in Brazil were green and red, like a cut watermelon. Within tourmaline there are more common and rarer shades. Purple and yellow are the less common color variations. It is also worth knowing that the different colored versions of tourmaline are known by different names, similar to the different colored stones of other classic stone families. This particularly large, 5.50 Ct, cushion cut, golden yellow specimen is one of the rare shades. It is the perfect choice for making any kind of jewelry.
